The Ursuline sister’s are some of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met. I cannot imagine this is the whole story and know that the sisters and Brescia have worked hard to ensure gender equality in Canada for many years. When I hear of Brescia, I don’t think of the city, I think of the amazing Canadian women who continue to inspire young women to reach their full potential.
Thanks for your comment George. Over the past several years the role of the Ursuline Sisters in both the governance and day to day operations of Brescia has declined significantly. Brescia’s last Ursuline faculty member retired at the end of 2015 and although there are a few sisters who are involved in an advisory capacity, the senior administrators manage the organization.
Kind of shameful that an institution like Brescia has to be dragged screaming into the 22nd century. Especially in matters of equity.
We are pleased to report that a tentative agreement has been reached that takes steps to address this issue.
